There
are over 20,000 of these devices in
use today.
On-board Data logger- This on-board computer
records every transaction that a client has with
his or her vehicle including: activity, time,
date, and BrAC level This micro processor has
a capacity to store over 12,000 separate events
and can display its contents in either summary
or detailed events format.
Memo Minder- This is Guardian's service
calendar. The calendar is set at each appointment
and will countdown days between required service
intervals. Should the client fail to meet his
or her scheduled appointment, the service calendar
will disable the interlock device not allowing
the vehicle to start. The Memo Minder features
both audible and visual reminders indicating upcoming
service appointment.
Rolling Retest- The rolling retest is an
interlock device's primary defense against circumvention.
It is a test taken subsequent to the initial test
to ensure continued sobriety as the offender operates
his or her vehicle. This test may be configured
to occur at fixed or random intervals as required
by the state.
Bypass Detection- Each interlock device
is installed in such a way that it will be able
to detect whether the vehicle is running. Should
it detect a vehicle ignition without a breath
test, the circumvention alarm will activate until
the vehicle is shut off. The interlock device
will then enter into a lockout state for a predetermined
period of time.
Circumvention Alarm- In the event that
the interlock device detects a bypass or in the
event that a rolling retest is failed or refused,
the circumvention alarm will sound the vehicle's
horn until the vehicle is shut off.
Power Interrupt- A dated record of when
the 12-volt power has been disconnected or interrupted.
The device maintains memory through an onboard
back-up lithium battery. This condition (other
than Tampering) can occur when a vehicle's battery
is disconnected due to repairs or is replaced.
Clients are required to provide documentation
of repairs.
Violations Reset- This feature combines
functions from both the Data logger and the Memo
Minder to ensure program compliance by each client.
Should the interlock device detect a violation
from one of the above features, it will automatically
reset the Memo Minder to require the client to
come in for service early. This will allow the
unit to be inspected and any violations to be
reported.
Emergency Restart- This feature allows
the vehicle an emergency restart within 1 minute
of a shut down incase of a vehicle stall.
Variable Driving Privilege (VDP)- The interlock
device may be programmed to only accept test during
predetermined periods of the day. This feature
may be used to restrict an offender to driving
only to and from work and treatment.
Coordinated Breath Pulse Access (CBPA)-
CBPA is a series of pauses and breaths that must
be completed subsequent to the initial breath
test. It is an advanced anti-circumvention method
of uniquely identifying a user vs. a bogus air
sample.
